Remember the Motorola RAZR The classic flip phone, which was perhaps the first phone of many, still holds a special place in our hearts. With its oh-so-satisfying flip mechanism, holding a phone had never seen and felt like it before. Say all you want about the bezel-less display and WhatsApp, but no smartphone in the market can match the design aesthetics of the RAZR. Anyway. This is not the case! After all the leaks and rumors, Motorola has finally launched the new Motorola “Razor.
Motorola razor overview.
Giving you a sweet hit of nostalgia, the Motorola Razer is a modern take on the classic flip phone design. It is now running on a large OLED display and runs Android. The design is precisely what the company is emphasizing with this product, and has thus sacrificed a lot in other aspects, which I will get to later. When folded, the new Razor bears the same thickness as the original RAZR from back in 2005. Now, it is a commendable dedication to design from Motorola.
However, the new Razor is quite heavy at 205 grams, which is to-be-expected. Although not an IP rating, the RAZR is splash-proof with water resistance,
While we have seen an incomplete and enhanced performance of foldable phones in the market such as Redmi and Huawei Mate X, even the Motorola Razor is an exception.this is thanks to the unique hinge that includes “movable support plates, which strictly support the display when the phone is open but moves out of the way when the phone is closed.
Motorola Razor – Unfolding.
Motorola worked with Lenovo as an affiliate, which adds to the appeal to the like. Due to multiple hinge mechanisms, there is no crease; Just a flat, tall OLED display. Likewise, part of the request of the flip phone is the picture to end the call and, of course, you can go with the new razor.
Like all foldable phones, the razor also has more than one display. When folded, you have access to a 2.7-inch glass OLED display with a resolution of 600 x 800 pixels in a 4: 3: 4 ratio. Motorola is calling it a “quick view” show. Here, you can see the time, receive your notifications, control music, take selfies through the primary camera, view and send messages, etc. It will show your phone’s main display. It can help eliminate the need to always access, which would otherwise distract you.
Now let’s talk about the first performance. The razor proudly features a 6.2-inch “Flex View” plastic OLED display with HD: (2142 x 876 pixels) resolution at 21: 9, Cinemavision, aspect ratio. As aforesaid, there is no crease in the performance. And since it has a familiar aspect ratio, the UI and apps or games do not behave in the wrong way as they do in other foldable devices. After all, this is just a long performance and nothing more.
Additionally, the cameras didn’t wow you either. There is a 16MP primary lens and 5MP selfie camera with EIS. Now, Motorola has tried to revive Razer’s camera capabilities by adding various creative modes. The “Spot Color” mode lets you select a color from the shot when changing to the rest of the monochrome.
Similarly, there is a “night vision” mode and “movies” mode for low-light photography that keeps a portion of the shot in motion, while everything else freezes (the demo video by Motorola sounds real, and a little creepy tbh is). Also, its presence is the “portrait” mode for the Bokeh effect.
With the sizeable chunky form-factor that comes with it, you’d expect a 3.5mm headphone jack, but it’s also a no-show. For security purposes, you get a non-Motorola branding physical fingerprint sensor in the chin. Finally, it runs on Android 9.0 (Pie) out of the box, which, as you know, is not the latest you can get.
